Stan Collymore believes Ruben Neves would be tempted to swap Wolverhampton Wanderers for Liverpool after sampling the famous Anfield atmosphere for the first time on Sunday, speaking to Stadium Astro.

Neves had played against Jurgen Klopp’s side twice already in the 2018/19 campaign, scoring a stunning goal in January’s FA Cup third round win at Molineux, but he was yet to set foot on the hallowed Anfield turf before the final game of the Premier League season this weekend.

As expected, Liverpool fans were in full voice throughout a Sadio Mane-inspired victory, serenading their team throughout despite seeing their Premier League title bid crumble as Manchester City cruised to a win at Brighton.

Collymore, however, believes one positive could come out of a heartbreaking afternoon on Merseyside.

“If you’re champions of Europe, that in itself is a huge catch,” Collymore said of the Champions League finalists.

“Players from around Europe will have seen the atmosphere this year and the type of football.

“One who will be looking is Ruben Neves. Neves is the kind of guy you’d get on the ball in the final third and he has the vision of David Silva.”

Portugal international Neves has been linked with Liverpool for the best part of a year now, having shone since joining Wolves in a club-record £16 million deal from FC Porto in 2017 (Goal).

FourFourTwo reported just over a year ago that Neves was in talks to sign for Liverpool, though no deal was forthcoming.
