Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are playing in the Premier League.

Former Nottingham Forest and Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has suggested on Boylesports.com that Everton need to become like Tottenham Hotspur.

Collymore has suggested that Everton need to make sure that they do not lose their top youngsters to bigger clubs.

Tottenham have a number of top young talented players on their books at the moment, such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier.

Over the past two or so years, Spurs have established themselves as genuine Premier League title contenders and have made sure that they retain the services of their best young talent.

Collymore has suggested that for Everton to progress, they need to follow in the footsteps of Spurs and make sure that they do not let their best youngsters leave.

“Tom Davies, Mason Holgate, Brendan Galloway and of course Ross Barkley are all fine players and have time and youth on their side, but the difference between them and the young crop at Spurs or Liverpool for example, is that the Lilywhites and Reds are saying to potential sharks fishing for their prized talent, ‘No thanks, not for sale, ever, and we mean it’,” Collymore wrote on Boylesports.com.

“We only have to look at the damaging effect that constantly having to battle to keep your promising young players (include managers in that too!) has on clubs, who all too often succumb to the cash rather than standing firm and resisting offers.

“If Everton are to thrive in the coming years, aside from investment money to spend, we need to look at them in the same way as Spurs, indeed even their players do and say ‘this is a destination now, not a stepping stone’.”

Everton are a massive club and have a loyal fanbase, and it is time that they start to aim higher and compete with the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City.

Ronald Koeman is a very good manager, and the club chiefs need to give him support and time in order to make the team better.
