Liverpool were easily beaten by Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore did not hold back in his assessment of Jordan Henderson’s latest performance for the Reds, suggesting the midfielder did little to justify his inclusion in the starting XI.
Jurgen Klopp’s side lost 4-1 to Tottenham Hotspur, with Mohamed Salah’s first-half strike a mere consolation and Dejan Lovren hooked early on after Spurs raced into a 2-0 lead.
As Liverpool skipper, Henderson would have been expected to lead by example, yet while he provided the assist for their goal, he could not stem the tide as Tottenham finally got over their Wembley hoodoo.
“Henderson, again, only in the team because he’s a nice lad and has handled ‘not being Gerrard’ really well,” Collymore wrote on Twitter shortly after the match, and there were few Liverpool fans that disagreed with him.
Henderson now has 252 appearances for the Reds under his belt and, at 27, he should be at the peak of his career.
Instead he is watching as Liverpool’s defence capitulates on a regular basis, undoing all the good work of the Reds’ impressive if erratic forward line.
Next up for Liverpool is a home clash with Huddersfield Town next weekend and Klopp will know he cannot underestimate the Terriers after their 2-1 win against Manchester United last time out.
