Liverpool and Everton played out a score draw on Sunday but one former Red was not happy.
Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has taken to Twitter to comment on the Reds’ 1-1 draw with Everton this weekend.
Liverpool went ahead courtesy of Mohamed Salah but, when Dejan Lovren was adjudged to have conceded a penalty, Wayne Rooney equalised to ensure Sam Allardyce’s great start to life as Everton boss went on.
Liverpool looked to be cruising to three points and, not for the first time this season, they were made to pay for being wasteful in front of goal, with only three of their 23 efforts finding the target.
That is simply not good enough for a Liverpool side that should be a lot further along in their development under Jurgen Klopp than they actually are, with their profligacy at one end and foolishness at the other costing them time and again.
When Rooney scored from the spot, Collymore wrote, “Too many touches, too easy, not ruthless enough with Everton on the ropes.”
It was the story of Liverpool’s season summed up in a single tweet and one wonders how long it will be before Klopp gets the Reds playing to their full potential week in, week out and not just sporadically.
Next up for Liverpool is a league game against West Bromwich Albion and, if they want to remain in a title race that could already be beyond them, they cannot afford to drop more points this side of Christmas.
