Writing in the Mirror, Stan Collymore has claimed that he fears for Sunderland should they be relegated to the Championship with their current squad.
The Black Cats are currently bottom of the Premier League, with just two points from their first nine games of the season.
It has been a disastrous start to the campaign for them, with another relegation battle looking like it is on the cards.
Their struggles have been largely due to their failure to add serious quality in the transfer window after David Moyes failed to land his priority signings this summer.

Their current players have come in for criticism and Collymore is worried about them should they end up suffering relegation.
“Moyes is still carrying deadwood, has-been players and right now you can’t see it turning around,” he told the Mirror.
“Sunderland have always been one of those clubs you just think need to be dusted down, given a cuddle, a proper manager and they could fly.”
“If they go down with that squad I’d fear for them in the Championship. And that’s a fact.”

For now, Sunderland will simply be focused on ensuring they are still within touching distance by the January transfer window.
It was that period that ended up saving them last season as Sam Allardyce brought in the likes of Lamine Kone and Jan Kirchhoff to turn things around.
They will be hoping for a similar success this time around too but first much ensure they are not cut adrift at the bottom, with a five point gap having already opened up.
