Popular football pundit Stan Collymore wrote in his column for The Mirror that Ronald Koeman has made a big mistake by not signing a striker.

Everton sold Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United this summer, and invested the money in different areas of the pitch.

Collymore says, in the article, that Koeman should have made a priority of replacing the Belgian striker.

Lukaku was the club’s top scorer last season, and Collymore rightly stated that Everton are paying the price for not replacing him properly.

The former Liverpool striker says that Everton should have gone for either of the three strikers – Fernando Llorente, Olivier Giroud, and Christian Benteke – this summer.

The Toffees made an attempt to lure Giroud, but the Frenchman opted to stay with Arsenal. Llorente moved to Tottenham Hotspur from Swansea.

Collymore feels that Everton should have tried hard for Benteke. The 26-year-old Belgian striker would have been a gettable target for the Merseyside club.

The football pundit adds that he is convinced of Benteke being tailor-made for Ronald Koeman’s side.

Collymore notes that Benteke is not only good in the air, but also has the pace and physical presence to bring others into the game.

“Llorente might say he’s in with a chance of winning something at Tottenham and Giroud is obviously settled at Arsenal,” wrote Collymore for The Mirror (read the full article).

“But I’m certain Benteke would have been gettable for not much more than Crystal Palace paid for him.

“And having seen him at Aston Villa I’m convinced he’d have been tailor-made for Ronald Koeman’s side. He has pace, holds the ball up well, brings others into the game, and he’s good in the air.”
