Leicester City beat Sevilla 2-0 on Tuesday evening, with ex-Aston Villa ace Marc Albrighton scoring.
Leicester City’s Marc Albrighton scores their second goal against Sevilla
Leicester City are into the last eight of the Champions League after beating Sevilla 2-0 on Tuesday night – and whilst many are delighted for the Foxes, Stan Collymore took the chance to slam Aston Villa.
The Foxes lost 2-1 in Spain in the first leg, but goals from Wes Morgan and Marc Albrighton sent Craig Shakespeare’s men through with a 3-2 aggregate victory, with Kasper Schmeichel’s penalty save from Steven N’Zonzi sealing Leicester’s passage in the quarter-finals.
After some struggles against the drop and the sacking of manager Claudio Ranieri, Leicester appear to be getting back on track, with winger Albrighton playing a key role.
The wide man, 27, was a vital part of Leicester’s journey to the Premier League title last season, but his goal against Sevilla was just his second of the season in what has been a hot-and-cold campaign for him.
Albrighton remains one of Leicester’s top signings and biggest bargains in recent years, having landed him on a free transfer from Aston Villa back in the summer of 2014.
Many Villa fans have criticised the club’s decision to let Albrighton walk away, as he first joined the club at the age of just eight way back in 1998, making his way up through the ranks of the Villa academy.

Albrighton hit nine goals in 101 appearances for the Villa first team before leaving the club on a free transfer, joining Leicester following their promotion to the Premier League.
Now, after seeing him score the goal to send Leicester into the last eight of the Champions League, pundit and former Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore has taken to Twitter to criticise the club’s decision to move on from Albrighton – especially given that they’re paying striker flop Ross McCormack considerably more than what Albrighton asked for to stay at Villa Park.
