Stan Collymore says Celtic are ready to “rock and roll” this season after obliterating Sunderland.

Sunderland rounded off their pre-season campaign with a demoralising 5-0 defeat by Celtic at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.

Two goals from Callum McGregor and another from new signing put Celtic three goals ahead by the half-time break.

The Scot completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot on 57 minutes, before Stuart Armstrong added a fifth in the final quarter.

Sunderland begin their Championship season on Friday with the visit of Derby County and this was hardly the ideal preparation for such a match, while Celtic have a second-leg Champions League qualifier in Rosenborg next week.

Of course, the Scottish champions are a good team, and they won a domestic treble last season without losing a game, but Simon Grayson’s new side are a Championship outfit and the result should certainly not have been so one-sided.

And Stan Collymore hit the nail on the head with a tweet on the match.
