Aston Villa lost 2-1 at Reading on Tuesday evening.
Aston Villa’s suspect start to the season continued on Tuesday night, as they were beaten 2-1 away at Reading, piling the pressure on manager Steve Bruce.
Villa were thrashed 3-0 by Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon, and manager Bruce had to answer questions about his suitability for the job ahead of the trip to face Reading.
However, Bruce was again on the losing side, as a Glenn Whelan own goal and a Modou Barrow strike put Reading 2-0 up, before Conor Hourihane set up a tense finale with a late strike for Villa.
Ultimately though, Villa were left empty-handed at the Madejski Stadium, and it’s now just one point from the first three games of the Championship season for Villa, despite their considerable spending efforts this summer.
John Terry, Glenn Whelan and Ahmed Elmohamady are among the signings Villa have brought in, but Bruce is struggling for results, with some fans already calling for his head having expected a push for promotion this season.
In fact, Villa fan and former player Stan Collymore has taken to Twitter to slam Villa’s performance, pointing out a number of stats to illustrate their ‘garbage’ performance against Reading.

Collymore also turned on technical director Steve Round, suggesting that he has done nothing to bring in under-the-radar players, with Villa only choosing to throw money at big name players.
The pundit even shot down rumours of a move for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere by suggesting that he is just another big name who can’t hack the rigours of the Championship, before urging fans to stick together whilst criticising the club with brutal honesty.
