Aston Villa were beaten 3-1 by Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League today, and Stan Collymore took to Twitter in reaction to the result.
The Villans led early through a goal from John McGinn, but three late goals from Spurs ruined the curtain-raiser for Dean Smith’s side’s return to the top flight.
Aston Villa did play well in spells, and they showed glimpses of what they are capable of, but Tottenham were by far the superior team.
Smith spent heavily this summer, splashing out in excess of £140 million on 12 new players, and he will be praying that they gel together sooner rather than later.
Villa only have to look at Fulham to realise that spending money doesn’t guarantee survival in the Premier League.
Whilst Aston Villa were far from terrible, there were certain players who failed to impress, and Collymore took to Twitter, singling out three of Smith’s men who quite simply weren’t at the races today:
Next up for Villa is a clash with Bournemouth next weekend, and they will have to make big improvements, if they are to stand any chance of beating Eddie Howe’s men.
