Wolverhampton Wanderers are flying under Nuno Espirito Santo, seventh in the Premier League and in the FA Cup semi-finals.
Stan Collymore has hailed the Wolverhampton Wanderers trio of Matt Doherty, Ryan Bennett and Conor Coady while highlighting that the defensive trio are integral to the club’s recent success, speaking to The Mirror.
It has been something of a dream 12 months at Molineux with Wolves storming to the Championship title last season before establishing themselves back in the Premier League in style.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are seventh in the table with eight games to go and also reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup, beating Manchester United in the last eight on Saturday.
And Collymore has rightly paid tribute to the likes of Ruben Neves, Raul Jimenez, Diogo Jota and Joao Moutinho, who arrived amid big expectations and have shone in ‘old gold’.
But the former Aston Villa striker believes long-serving players such as Bennett, Coady and Doherty deserve plenty of credit for their roles on and off the pitch as they continue to go under the radar.
“Don’t underestimate the importance of Conor Coady, Ryan Bennett and Matt Doherty in what they have achieved this season and before it,” Collymore said.
“Coady and Doherty have been at the club for several years now, and their roles in helping the foreign players find the right areas to live, the right places to relax and the right schools to send their children to will have been a huge help in them settling in so quickly.”
Coady and Bennett have impressed at the heart of a back three alongside Willy Boly while Doherty has been a huge success at right-wing back, producing four assists and scoring three goals in his first Premier League season.
