Stan Collymore names two players he’s shocked Everton didn’t attempt to sign

Everton appear to have failed to adequately replace Romelu Lukaku.

Stan Collymore has told the Daily Mirror that he is surprised that Everton did not make a move to sign Fernando Llorente or David Villa this summer.

Everton sold Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, and were in pursuit of a new number nine for much of the summer transfer window.

However, the Toffees were left frustrated and failed to get a deal over the line for a new leading marksman.

Although both Wayne Rooney and Sandro arrived, Everton have looked toothless up-front in their opening few Premier League matches.

And Collymore believes that Everton missed an opportunity by not moving for Llorente or Villa.

“I was surprised they didn’t push hard for Fernando Llorente, who has a great pedigree, or David Villa, who is scoring goals for fun in New York and has just been brought back into the Spain squad,” he said.

Llorente ended up leaving Swansea City to move to Tottenham Hotspur, with Everton looking at other targets.

The Toffees wanted Olivier Giroud, according to the Liverpool Echo, but they were unable to get a deal over the line.

Everton are now paying the price for failing to sign a new striker, and currently sit in 18th place in the Premier League table.
