Villa are currently looking for a new number one for next season, with Steve Bruce’s current goalkeeping options looking limited.
Ruddy has been touted as a potential option for Villa, following his release from Norwich City.
And Collymore believes that Bruce would be wise to offer the one-time England international a contract.
Villa chairman Tony Xia has today hinted that Villa are close to making a signing.
The Villans have been quiet in the transfer window so far, but are expected to be active before the season starts.
If Ruddy does move to Villa he will be in competition with Jed Steer for the number one shirt.
Ruddy made 27 appearances for Norwich in the Championship last term, and will be hoping to play more regularly next time around.
