Man City have brought Joao Cancelo to the Etihad Stadium from Juventus while Danilo has gone the other way.
Premier League legend and retired England striker Stan Collymore has given his thoughts on Manchester City’s signing of Joao Cancelo (official Citizens website) and also commented on something he feels ‘goes unnoticed’ about the Etihad Stadium side.
On Wednesday, the champions of England completed the signing of the Portugal right-back from Juventus for £60million, with full-back Danilo moving in the opposite direction for a fee of £34.1million according to BBC Sport.
Cancelo, capped 14 times by the reigning European champions, has penned a deal which commits his future to the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2025 and follows Angelino and Rodri to become Pep Guardiola’s third signing of the summer.
As for Danilo, who joined Man City from Real Madrid for £26.5m in 2017, he made 22 league starts in 60 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, but was rarely seen as a first-choice player by Guardiola.
Collymore took to Twitter to praise the acquisition of Cancelo, who he feels brings Man City “a step closer to the perfect squad”, while also noting how “ruthless” the club is when it comes to players who don’t slot in fairly quickly.
Man City get their Premier League season under way on Saturday, in the day’s early kickoff, as they travel to the London Stadium for a fixture against West Ham United.
