Leeds United kick off their Championship campaign next weekend.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - JULY 19:Marcelo Bielsa coach of the Leeds United speaks to his squad during a Leeds United training session at Sydney Olympic Park on July 19, 2019 in Sydney, Australia.

Stan Collymore has predicted that Leeds United will finish first or second in the Championship this season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side will be hoping to go one better this time around after finishing third last term and being knocked out of the playoffs by Derby County at the semi-final stage.

It was a heartbreaking end to the season for Leeds, who had spent most of the campaign alternating between the top two automatic promotion places.

Keeping the Argentine at Elland Road was a big boost for their chances this season, and Collymore believes that United and recently-relegated Fulham will battle it out for the top two places.

He wrote in The Mirror: “Fulham and Leeds are my tips for gaining automatic promotion to Prem from the Championship this season.

“I pick Fulham because of their be squad and Leeds because Marcelo Bielsa will make sure they bounce back from the disappointment they faced the end of the last campaign.”

It has been an okay summer on the transfer front for the West Yorkshire outfit, who have signed some big players – like, say, Helder Costa – but Bielsa has also lost some key personnel in the form of Pontus Jansson.

Still, Leeds got so much further than they should have last term, given the season-long injury crisis that had to be managed, and the 64-year-old will be hoping for a bit more luck this time.

The Whites kick off their season next Sunday with a tricky trip to Bristol City.

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa takes his seat before the match during the Pre-season Friendly match between York City and Leeds United on July 10, 2019 in York, England.
