West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice certainly had his hands full early on this afternoon’s trip to Newcastle United.

Steve Bruce’s side enjoyed a stunning start to the Premier League season.

Callum Wilson nodded Newcastle into a 1-0 lead inside the first minute after some brilliant work from Allan Saint-Maximin out wide.

The French winger bamboozled the West Ham star with a number of step-overs and dummies, just before prodding in the cross that Wilson headed home.

Here’s what Stan Collymore tweeted after the goal – a gif of a dog chasing its own tail.

Comeback

The Irons twice came from behind today – first when Aaron Cresswell cancelled out Wilson’s opener, and then again on 53 minutes then Said Benrahma equalised after Jacob Murphy fired the hosts 2-1 ahead.

David Moyes’s side grew into the game from there and Tomas Soucek made it 3-2 after a missed penalty from Michail Antonio, before the latter repented for that miss by adding a fourth and ultimately killing off Newcastle once and for all.

The East Londoners are yet to sign an outfielder this summer and considering that, this was one hell of a result.

Winning away at a packed-out St James’s Park isn’t easy and that, combined with West Ham signing virtually nobody [except a loan for Alphonse Areola] makes this a fine start to the Premier League season.
