Everton reclaimed second spot in the Premier League win with a come-from-behind win over Middlesbrough at Goodison Park on Saturday night.
The in-form Toffees went behind in controversial fashion on 20 minutes through an own goal from Maarten Stekelenburg, who seemed to beat Alvaro Negredo to a cross, but the Spaniard headed his Dutch counterpart’s hands and it ended up in the net.
Nevertheless, Everton hit back almost immediately when Gareth Barry marked his 600th Premier League appearance in heroic fashion, firing home after Victor Valdes failed to collect a corner amid pressure from Ashley Williams.
Four minutes before the break, full-back Seamus Coleman danced around a couple of Boro players and passed beyond Valdes into the net, before Romelu Lukaku, on the stroke of half time, gave the hosts a two-goal cushion heading into the break.
During the interval, Stan Collymore was asked for one word which sums up the Everton man, 35 – and the former Premier League striker did a good job, it has to be said.
