Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been in terrific form this season.
Former Liverpool striker turned football pundit Stan Collymore says that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been exceptional this season, but he doesn’t think the England international is a world class player, as of yet.
Collymore labels Kane as a “top-level striker”, but he feels Kane can’t be put in the same bracket alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Robert Lewandowski.
Kane scored an amazing 39 goals in the Premier League in 2017, eclipsing Alan Shearer’s record of 36, set with Blackburn in 1995.
Collymore opines that Kane has scored loads of goals in the Premier League, but hasn’t delivered consistently on bigger platforms.
He says that he wants to see Kane making the difference in the biggest of matches in the Champions League, and scoring against top clubs.
The former Nottingham Forest player also added that if he had the choice between Kane and PSG forward Kylian Mbappe, he would opt for the latter, because the Frenchman “has more in his armoury”.
“I’m afraid I still can’t put the Tottenham and England man in that bracket yet,” wrote Collymore in his column for the Mirror.
“I reserve that for Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Robert Lewandowski, players who have consistently scored goals in the biggest of games – and Kane hasn’t done yet.
“In airline terms, he’s business-class – not quite in possession of that golden ticket to first. Don’t get me wrong, he is heading in the right direction.
“But what I want to see from Kane now are the goals that make the difference in the biggest of matches.”
Kane has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world at the moment, and has consistently scored over 25 goals for the last three seasons.
Of course, he still has plenty to prove, especially in European competitions and international stages, but surely he has done enough to be recognized as an elite level player.
