Arsenal have not won the Premier League in over 12 years.
Stan Collymore has told Boyle Sports that he cannot see Arsenal winning the Premier League this season.
The Gunners edged out Swansea City 3-2 at the Emirates on Saturday for what was a sixth successive Premier League victory.
The three points lifted Arsene Wenger’s side to second place in the table, level on points with Manchester City at the summit.
For the moment, things seem very good at Arsenal and they still have the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud to come back into the squad.
But historically, things have always been good for the North London club around this time of the season, and yet they have not won a Premier League title since 2004.
The wheels tend to come off Arsenal’s title bid in the final few months of the campaign, and Collymore is refusing to get excited about their prospects this season as a result.
“I, like many football fans would love to see Arsene win the title in his 20th season at the club but we’ve been here so many times before,” he wrote for Boyle Sports.
“We’ve seen Arsenal play teams off the park in the warm days of Autumn, seen players have a spurt of form only to be anonymous later down the line and I just can’t get excited, even if it is six games unbeaten on the bounce.”
Arsenal’s squad certainly seems big and strong enough at the moment to last the distance, but they have not had many major tests. They lost 4-3 to Liverpool on the opening day of the season, but beat Chelsea 3-0 last month.
Still, Wenger’s side have not yet come up against Manchester City, Tottenham or Manchester United, and how they fare in those games should tell us how serious Arsenal are about ending their infamous title drought this season.
