Stan Collymore gives his verdict on the new West Ham manager.

Popular football pundit Stan Collymore says that David Moyes is a sticking plaster.

West Ham appointed the former Manchester United manager following the sacking of Slaven Bilic. The Hammers made a poor start to the season and find themselves in the relegation zone.

Moyes has been given a short term contract to turn things around. West Ham were looking for an experienced Premier League manager to steady the ship and they went for Moyes.

The 54-year-old made his name as a good Premier League manager during his long spell at Everton. However, his stint with Manchester United, Real Sociedad, and Sunderland turned out to be a huge disaster.

Collymore says that every defeat or poor performance from West Ham will invite an added scrutiny on Moyes, and also on the West Ham board.

He adds that the Hammers should have gone for Watford manager Marco Silva instead of Moyes.

Collymore is absolutely spot on here. In his first game in charge, Moyes’ West Ham lost 2-0 to Watford, and the fans vented their frustration on the West Ham board.

“I can understand why West Ham’s board went for David Moyes, but the reality is he’s a sticking plaster,” wrote Collymore for the Sunday People (printed edition; 19th November – page 51). “And every defeat or poor performance under him is going to leave David Sullivan and David Gold wide open to criticism from West Ham fans.”
