West Ham United’s goalkeeper Adrian would not get into a combined XI with Manchester United according to the pundit.
Football pundit Stan Collymore has admitted in his latest column for Boyle Sports that he got it wrong in a recent analysis of the West Ham United and Manchester United squads.
Writing for the Mirror in the build up to the Hammers’ FA Cup quarter-final clash with United last weekend, Collymore suggested that not a single member of Louis van Gaal’s first XI would get in ahead of their West Ham counterparts – a suggestion that prompted plenty of raised eyebrows.
There is no doubt West Ham have been brilliant this season while United have struggled for much of the campaign, but in David de Gea they have one of the best goalkeepers in world football and that is something Collymore has since acknowledged.
Writing on Boyle Sports’ official website, the Talk Sport presenter said, “I caused a bit of a stir suggesting in another column I write, that not one Man United player would get in the current West Ham side, and I got it woefully, woefully wrong.
“Maybe David de Gea would. Ha ha.”
It is a fair point, suggesting that the Spaniard aside you would be hard pressed to find a better performer for United than for the Hammers this season.
The two sides will meet again in a quarter-final replay with the winners taking on Everton in the semi-final at Wembley for the right to play Crystal Palace or Watford in the final.
