Former Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore has praised the Leeds United team of the 1970s on social networking site Twitter.

Collymore made the comment about Leeds while responding to a fan of the Elland Road outfit following well-known Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague’s comments on Twitter about Manchester City.

Balague, who works for Sky Sports, spoke highly of Pep Guardiola’s City following their 2-1 victory over Manchester United away from home at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

Leeds played wonderful football in the 1970s, and won the English first division title in 1974 and the FA Cup in 1972.

The West Yorkshire outfit also reached the final of the European Cup during the 1974-75 campaign and the final of the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1972-73.

The Whites, though, have not featured in the Premier League since 2004 and are playing in the Championship at the moment.

Leeds are doing well at the moment and could end up in the Championship playoffs this season.
