Everton signed Wayne Rooney from Manchester United this summer, and he has netted twice in his first two Premier League games.

Stan Collymore has admitted that he was wrong about Everton forward Wayne Rooney.

Collymore wrote in a column in the Daily Mirror earlier in the summer that Everton didn’t need to sign Rooney.

However, the 31-year-old has been in blistering form since moving to Goodison Park.

Rooney scored Everton’s winner against Stoke City on opening day, and then netted against Manchester City last night.

Rooney’s goal actually put Everton in front at the Etihad Stadium, but Raheem Sterling struck an equaliser late on.

And Collymore admits that he has seen enough from Rooney to suggest that he merits an England call-up.

England have two World Cup qualifying matches going up in September, against Malta and Slovakia.

Rooney has not been included in Gareth Southgate’s last few Three Lions’ squads, but confirmed that he would have a conversation with the England boss this week.

Rooney’s next chance of action for Everton comes on Thursday, when the Toffees take on Hajduk Split in the Europa League.
