Collymore has explained why he thinks Jack Wilshere joined Bournemouth over the likes of AC Milan and Roma.

In his column for the Daily Mirror, Stan Collymore has stated that Jack Wilshere’s desire to be top man would have made him choose Bournemouth over Italian giants AC Milan and Roma.
Wilshere had been made available on a loan by Arsenal during the last few days of the summer transfer window and it was no surprise whatsoever in seeing a host of clubs battling it out against each other in an attempt to recruit the services of the 24-year-old.

The likes of AC Milan, Roma and Crystal Palace were all said to have been very keen on signing Wilshere but somewhat surprisingly, the midfielder went on to join Bournemouth instead.
Upon the completion of the transfer to the Vitality Stadium, Wilshere revealed that he joined Bournemouth as he felt that the club was the right place for him to develop.
The Englishman said (the Guardian): “I had a good chat with the manager and feel sure this is the best place for me to play and develop this season. I would like to thank everyone at the club for making me feel so welcome.”

However, former Aston Villa man Stan Collymore is not convinced by Wilshere’s reasons for joining the Cherries and has stated that the midfielder made the move to the South Coast as he wanted to be ‘top dog’.
Collymore stated in his column for the Daily Mirror, “The common consensus is that Jack Wilshere picked Bournemouth over AC Milan or Roma because he wanted to be closer to home. But I don’t buy that.
“I’m convinced it’s more a case of ‘Top-dog syndrome’ with Jack. He needed to be the standout player at whichever club he joined from Arsenal, and he will be that down on the south coast.

“Everyone at Bournemouth will be doing cartwheels around him, everyone will be doing his work around him, everyone will be delighted to have an Arsenal-quality player in their ranks.”
Whatever the reasons for Wilshere’s move to Bournemouth, there is no denying that the Arsenal man has been handed a great chance to revive his career and he should now look to make the most of the opportunity.
And of course the Cherries could benefit hugely if the England international plays anywhere near to his full ability while at the club.
