Speaking on ESPN, Shaka Hislop has been speaking about Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale.
Ramsdale has been in exceptional form as of late. The goalkeeper has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award, and inevitably, his good form has led to questions about his role for England.
Hislop was asked about Ramsdale taking Jordan Pickford’s place as England’s number one, and while the pundit doesn’t think the 23-year-old will take Pickford’s spot anytime soon, he had plenty of praise for him.
What’s been said?
Hislop gave his view on Ramsdale becoming England’s number one.
“He’s been outstanding he really has, listen. I don’t think Southgate will change Pickford any time soon without good reason – good reason meaning mistakes in an England shirt, but Ramsdale is certainly staking his claim,” Hislop said.

Rivalry
It seems as though we may be about to see a real battle for the England number one shirt.
Pickford has been firmly first-choice for a number of years now, but Ramsdale is really emerging as a new contender.
Factor in the likes of Dean Henderson and Sam Johnstone and you have what could potentially be a very competitive four-way battle.
Ramsdale is certainly in the best form of any goalkeeper at the moment, and if he keeps this up, it surely won’t be long until Gareth Southgate gives him the nod to start for the Three Lions.
