A new survey values Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur’s squad at over £1bn.
A new study conducted by the CIES Football Observatory has estimated the value of the Tottenham Hotspur squad at £1.04bn – the second highest in all of Europe.
Mauricio Pochettino’s group of young players are claimed to be worth more than their counterparts at Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Only Premier League leaders Manchester City, whose squad comes in at £1.06bn, is more valuable according to the CIES Football Observatory transfer value algorithm.
Harry Kane is calcuated as being Tottenham’s most valuable player at a staggering £165m, and the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Eric Dier help Spurs over the billion pound mark.
Only Neymar of Paris Saint Germain is valued higher than Kane (£192m).
Spanish outlet Marca claims that Real Madrid are tracking Kane and Alli and speculation will continue to mount over their futures while all of Tottenham’s good work goes trophyless.
These estimated figures show the windfall that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is sitting on as he aims to pay off a new stadium that will cost around £800m, according to The Mirror.
As it stands, Levy seems committed to Pochettino’s ambition of keeping the squad together, but selling just a couple of his big stars will go a long way to paying off the stadium debt.
It remains to be seen how Levy will react if the transfer fees mooted by the CIES Football Observatory are put on the table. Tottenham fans will be hoping that he can resist cashing in.
