Odsonne Edouard may not have made his name at senior level yet but a loan move to Celtic could be the making of the teenager.
Reports in the Daily Record that Celtic are weighing up a loan move for PSG starlet Odsonne Edouard won’t have done Wikipedia’s daily site hits any harm.
The 19-year-old is hardly a household name after all, having failed to make a single first-team appearances for Les Parisiens. Yet, that does not mean Celtic supporters shouldn’t be excited by the prospect of Edouard donning green and white this season.
Because his goalscoring record at youth level is simply phenomenal. Nicknamed ‘The Rocket, Edouard wasted no time making an impact behind the scenes at PSG.
Top scoring at the age of just 15 in the club’s under-17 side, Edouard has since plundered 60 goals in the last two seasons at youth level. It’s no surprise, then, that PSG were quick to tie him down to his first professional contract as soon as he turned 18.
Powerful and deceptively skilful with the ball at his feet, Edouard also earned the Golden Boy and Golden Boot awards at the 2015 UEFA Under-17 European Championships for France.
Eight goals in just five games, including a hat-trick in the final against Germany, is some record. Never before had a player scored as many goals in a single tournament.
Needless to say, you can see why Brendan Rodgers likes him. A difficult loan spell at Toulouse last season, which yielded just one goal in 16 Ligue 1 games, shows that Edouard has some way to go before he can replicate his stunning youth form at senior level.
However, Rodgers has a handy knack of helping young players realise their potential.
