Glasgow Rangers youngster Ross McCrorie has enjoyed a superb season at Ibrox.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard looks on during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premier League match between Rangers and Dundee at Ibrox Stadium on February 27, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Steven Gerrard will now be wondering what he can do to get Rangers’ season back on track after their hopes of winning the Scottish Cup were dashed at Ibrox earlier this week.

The fans, understandably, want to see a number of changes moving forward. And one of the names that cropped up time and time again on social media was that of Ross McCrorie, who has not played for the Gers since February.

McCrorie has enjoyed an outstanding season in Rangers’ midfield. But Gerrard has opted to stick by the likes of Glen Kamara and Ryan Jack in recent times, forcing the youngster to watch from the sidelines.

In fairness to Jack and Kamara, both men had done well before this week. Kamara looks to be an inspired signing for the Light Blues. But there is a remarkable statistic that highlights exactly why now is the time for McCrorie to be recalled.

Ross McCrorie of Rangers and Veton Berisha of Rapid during the UEFA Europa League match between SK Rapid Wien v Rangers at Weststadion on December 13, 2018 in Vienna, Austria.

McCrorie has played 24 games this season. And yet, he has not been on the losing side in a single domestic game this term. The only time McCrorie tasted defeat came in the Europa League when Rangers travelled to Austria to face Rapid Vienna.

Of course, Rangers’ unbeaten domestic is not all down to McCrorie’s performances. As impressive as he has been, he is still developing his game and is not the finished article.

Ross McCrorie of Rangers is seen in action during the Scottish Cup 5th Round match between Kilmarnock and Rangers at Rugby Park on February 9, 2019 in Kilmarnock, Scotland.

And yet, McCrorie plays in a role where his contribution could quite easily go under the radar, so it would also be unfair to suggest that he has not been a key player in that unbeaten domestic run either.

So if Gerrard is looking to get the supporters back on side, perhaps now is the time to turn back to McCrorie as the form book suggests his inclusion could turn the tide for the Gers.
