The striker has had a difficult start to his Tottenham career.
Tottenham Hotspur face a tough task in attempting to overcome Juventus in the Last 16 of the Champions League, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side will certainly take much confidence from the fact that they topped a group containing Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
One player who will especially be looking forward to the tie against Juventus is Fernando Llorente, with the striker having made 92 appearances for the Serie A club between 2013 and 2015.
As has been well documented, Llorente’s spell at Tottenham hasn’t gone to plan so far and he had to wait until his 17th appearance for the club – the 3-0 victory over APOEL Nicosia – to open his account.
However, if he features in some capacity, most likely as a substitute, Llorente will be eager to make an impact against his former employers and if he was to score the decisive goal to knock Juventus out it would instantly make the Spaniard a hero amongst Tottenham supporters.
Over the busy next couple of months, Llorente will have an additional incentive to build up momentum and convince Pochettino that he deserves increased playing time.
If Llorente was to step up then it would certainly ease the burden on Harry Kane and would make Tottenham a much stronger side overall.
There have been concerns that Llorente is following in the footsteps of Vincent Janssen, who struggled as back-up to Kane last season before being sent out on loan. The tie against Juventus, however, could provide Llorente with a chance to quell such claims.
