Oran Kearney admits that Celtic’s possession based style makes them so difficult to beat as his St Mirren side were swatted aside by the champions elect on Wednesday night, speaking to Belfast Live.

Celtic moved 13 points clear at the top of the table after grabbing a dramatic Old Firm derby win against Rangers on Sunday and they continued their march towards an eighth successive Premiership crown in Paisley three days later.

PSG loanee Timothy Weah scored his fourth goal for the club with a header which crashed in off the bar before Ryan Christie sealed another three-point haul late on. Celtic could have had a third if Olivier Ntcham had not missed from the spot.

And St Mirren boss Kearney has opened up on how hard it is to get anything against the dominant force of Scottish football after his relegation-threatened side were comfortably beaten.

“It was a tough night and probably to be expected, Celtic do dominate a lot of the ball,” Kearney said.

“In other games you maybe get a couple of other chances, but in games like this it’s important you take those. They’re probably the ones you are hoping for so that you have a grandstand finish.

“I think it’s even harder to score against Celtic because you spend so much time off the ball and moving so much that you when you do have the ball, you’re that little bit more fatigued or tired.”

Celtic did only tally 55 per cent of the possession in midweek, but you can see where Kearney is coming from.

Neil Lennon has persisted with the possession-based approach which Brendan Rodgers made his trademark in Glasgow and it seems that Celtic’s reign as the Kings of Scotland is showing few signs of coming to an end.
