Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers drew 1-1 on Wednesday night.

St Johnstone defender Steven Anderson has accused Rangers centre-back Rob Kiernan of punching him during Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at McDiarmid Park.

The incident came shortly after a dreadful error from Kiernan allowed the hosts to cancel out Barry McKay’s 23rd-minute opener last night.

The 31-year-old defender claims that the Rangers man punched him in the ribs, claiming that his St Johnstone team-mate Brian Easton even witnessed it.

And Anderson feels that the 25-year-old centre-back could and probably should face retrospective action over the incident.

“If that’s the way he wants to play then it’s up to him – but he is going to get done for it,” he told PA Sport.

“It was a corner and he caught me in the ribs. Brian Easton saw it as well. It was a clear punch on me.

“You can’t do that in football games. I’m not bothered but if it gets highlighted then he deserves it. There was nothing happened before it. I was marking him at a corner and there was a bit of argy bargy – then he punched me.”

It was a big risk from Kiernan, with Rangers scheduled to face Celtic in the first Old Firm derby at Ibrox, in the Premiership, for over four years, but he may get away with it.

Kiernan has also been linked to a £2 million switch away from Ibrox. His silly error, coupled with the punch, could well scupper that would-be move to Fulham.
