Jason Holt has left Steven Gerrard’s Rangers for a loan spell at Scottish Premiership rivals St Johnstone – and Tommy Wright is impressed.

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright has hailed Jason Holt’s performances in training with the Rangers loanee making a big impact at McDiarmid Park, according to the BBC.
Wright’s comments won’t come as a surprise to any Rangers fans. There has never been any question about Holt’s commitment or attitude at Ibrox, after all. Instead, it seems that a lack of real technical ability has cost him the chance to fight for a place in Steven Gerrard’s side.
After spending last season on loan at Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town, Holt was farmed out again last week, joining Scottish Premiership rivals St Johnstone on a short-term deal.
“He has given the place a lift already with the quality he has shown in training,” Northern Irishman Wright told the BBC.
“I’m really pleased. He can use the ball well, has good mobility and can nick a goal or two.
“I think it is important you get as many players that know the league as possible and Jason certainly does.”

Holt was a key player under Mark Warburton at Rangers and featured regularly enough during the reigns of Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty too.
But Gerrard has brought such high standards to the blue half of Glasgow, adding quality in the shape of Steven Davis, Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo in the last eight months. That left Holt, whose contract at Rangers will expire next summer, on the outside looking in.
