According to reports from Gazetta Dello Sport, Sunderland met up with Emanuele Giaccherini’s representatives at the weekend to discuss the transfer of the attacking midfielder.
Giaccherini may have been a huge disappointment at Sunderland since his arrival to the Stadium of Light from Juventus during the summer of 2013 but the play-maker remains one of the most coveted players in Italy.
Following two difficult seasons at Sunderland, Giaccherini returned to Italy on a season-long loan deal by joining Bologna last term and he enjoyed a wonderful campaign at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, scoring seven goals in 28 appearances.
The exploits with Bologna led to Giaccherini earning a call-up to the Italian national squad for the recently concluded 2016 European Championships and the 31-year-old played a starring role in the Azzurri’s run to the quarter-finals of the competition.
Giaccherini’s brilliant performances have led to the former Cesena man to be linked with Premier League giants Chelsea (Sky Sports) but a move back to the Italian Serie A side Torino looks the more likely option for the Sunderland man at the moment.
Now in an update to Giaccherini’s prospective move to Torino, Gazetta Dello Sport has revealed that Sunderland held talks with the player’s representatives regarding the transfer during the weekend.
It is believed that the two sides are willing to agree a fee anywhere between £3.5 million and £4.2 million and the move is now on the verge of completion.
