Sunderland make request to FIFA in an attempt to secure the services of Boavista goalkeeper Mika.
Premier League outfit Sunderland have made an appeal to FIFA in an attempt to earn special dispensation to secure the services of Boavista goalkeeper Mika, according to reports from Portuguese website Mais Futebol.
Sunderland enjoyed a relatively successful deadline day after managing to secure the services of Didier Ndong from Lorient for a club record fee of around £13.6 million as well as the loan recruitment of Jason Denayer from Manchester City.
However, manager David Moyes would perhaps have been left a bit disappointed after failing to sign a new goalkeeper.
Number one choice Vito Mannone is currently out due to an elbow injury and backup Jordan Pickford also recently picked up a thigh problem while on international duty with the England Under-21’s.
As a result, Moyes had been desperately looking to sign a new custodian on deadline day and it had been reported that the Scotsman was on the verge of completing a swoop for Boavista star Mika.
Evidently, the transfer did not come into fruition before the deadline passed but Sunderland still harbor hopes of signing the 25-year-old – according to Spanish outlet Mais Futebol.
The report claim that both Boavista and Sunderland are keen on getting the deal done for Mika and the two clubs have launched a formal appeal to FIFA to be granted special dispensation to complete the transfer.
The argument which has been put forward by the clubs is that Mika’s move did not take place due to an unexpected error in the Computerized transfer system and they are hoping that FIFA will allow them to proceed with the transfer.
