Marseille are reportedly planning to secure the services of Henri Saivet by August 14th.
According to reports from French publication La Provence, Marseille are hopeful of sealing a deal for Newcastle United midfielder Henri Saivet by August 14th.
Newcastle United splashed around £5 million to secure the services of Henri Saivet from Bordeaux during the January transfer window last season but it has to be said that the transfer has proven to be a huge error on the part of the Magpies.
Saivet has failed to make any impact whatsoever at St. James’ Park, and upon the arrival of Rafael Benitez as manager the 25-year-old was given no playing time at all.
It is clear to see that Saivet does not feature in the plans of Benitez and as a result, the Senegalese international is widely expected to be leaving St. James’ Park this summer.
According to La Provence, claims had been made that Marseille were interested in signing Saivet and that the French side’s Head of Recruitment Jean-Philippe Durand and Sporting Director Gunter Jacob have held talks with the player’s representatives.
Now in a further development to the story, La Provence have gone on to claim that Marseille are now ramping up their pursuit for Saivet as they are keen on recruiting the services of the former Bordeaux player before August 14th.
Newcastle are unlikely to stand in the way of Saivet making the move but it remains to be seen at what transfer fee the two parties will be able to come to an agreement.
