Vincent Kompany draws likeness between England and Tottenham Hotspur.
The England squad for the European Championships heavily features players from the Tottenham Hotspur and all five members present in the squad, in the form of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker, started in the 1-1 draw against Russia in the opening group game on Saturday evening.
Given the large influence of Tottenham players in the squad, it was no surprise to see England playing a high pressing and quick passing game against Russia – very similar to the one adopted by Spurs last season.
Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany was following England’s encounter with Russia closely and the defender took to Twitter to pose an interesting question regarding the similarities between the Three Lions and Tottenham.
The Belgian posted,
Apart from the playing style, the manner with which England dominated the game but faltered at the end was also akin to Tottenham’s Premier League campaign last term and Kompany may have unwittingly angered a few of the Spurs’ faithful with his post.
Following the disappointing result, England will now be looking to get back on track when they square off against Wales at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens on June 16.
