Joey Barton and Michael Owen have their say on whether Glenn Hoddle should be appointed as the next England manager.
The England national team endured a humiliating exit from the European Championships after suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of minnows Iceland in the last 16 of the competition and following the embarrassment manager Roy Hodgson quickly tendered his resignation.
Soon after Hodgson’s departure, names such as Alan Pardew, Sam Allardyce, Slaven Bilic and Gareth Southgate among others have been bandied about in the media as potential replacements for the 68-year-old.
Recently, even Glenn Hoddle has been mentioned as the surprise candidate to become the next England manager. Hoddle enjoyed a successful three-year spell as manager of the Three Lions between 1996 and 1999 and there have been calls for the 58-year-old to be reappointed once again.
However, Hoddle has not managed at the top level for nearly a decade now since his departure from Wolverhampton Wanderers back in 2006 and Rangers midfielder Joey Barton believes that the Tottenham legend would not be a good choice for England as a result.
Through Twitter Barton stated that Hoddle would not be his preferred option for England and added that the former Chelsea boss is currently out of touch with modern football, on the evidence of having worked with him at Queens Park Rangers recently.

However, former Manchester United striker Michael Owen clearly does not agree with Barton’s views and has stated that Hoddle would unquestionably be his first choice for the England managerial hot seat.
