Jamie Redknapp has said that Tottenham Hotspur are really missing Moussa Dembele.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp says he believes that Tottenham are currently struggling due to the absence of star midfielder Moussa Dembele.

Tottenham fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Liverpool at White Hart Lane on Saturday, but Spurs put in a disappointing performance and, if it wasn’t for a wasteful Liverpool, would have come away with nothing.

In truth, Tottenham have made a sluggish start to their Premier League campaign, and haven’t looked convincing in their opening three matches.

Redknapp told Sky Sports, “It (the poor performance against Liverpool) shows how much they miss Mousa Dembele. He was controlling games for them last season. They’ve missed his authority. He gets Spurs ticking. He is a big miss.”

Dembele was handed a six match ban at the end of last season for inexplicably gouging into the eye of Chelsea striker Diego Costa, and the Belgian international will only be available for selection when Tottenham begin their Champions League campaign against Monaco on September 15th.

This season is an important one for the club, as Spurs will wish to consolidate their position in Europe’s top competition – and that means another top four Premier League finish this term. And with Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United all looking solid after 100% starts to the season, the race for fourth could be a tight one, with Tottenham in the mix with Arsenal, Liverpool and possibly Everton.
