Arsene Wenger has reacted to Lyon’s claims that Arsenal had placed a £29 million offer for Alexandre Lacazette.
It is no secret that Arsenal are currently in the market to sign a new world-class striker and Lyon star Alexandre Lacazette is a player who has consistently been linked with the Gunners this summer.
Lacazette has been one of the most prolific goal-scorers in Europe over the past few years, scoring an impressive 76 goals in just 138 appearances and his wonderful run of form has caught the attention of Arsenal.
Arsenal are usually very coy regarding their transfer activity and much to their surprise Lyon revealed yesterday that the Gunners had placed a bid of around only £29 million for Lacazette to refute recent reports from Le Progres that the Premier League club had offered £40.3 million for the French international.
Lyon posted the following statement on their official Twitter feed,
Now Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has gone on to comment regarding Lyon’s statement and has refused to give anything away, refusing to either admit or deny the French Ligue 1 side’s claims about Lacazette.
Wenger was quoted saying to the Daily Star, “Lyon are comfortable with their own statements. I think in situations like this it is always best to keep things as secret as possible. If we sign someone, we will announce it. Until then, I can’t say much more than that.”
