Tottenham Hotspur will sell Moussa Sissoko this summer for the right price, according to reports.
Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko
Arriving on the final day of the transfer window, the signing of Moussa Sissoko by Tottenham Hotspur was scene as a real coup at the time. After some great performances for France at the Euros, the Frenchman’s signature was hotly contested, and Tottenham had to pip Everton to the £30 million signing with just hours to spare, according to the BBC.
But now, according to a report in French news outlet L’Equipe, Spurs would be willing to sell the midfielder, should they receive the right price. After joining for such an enormous price in the summer, what’s gone wrong for the French midfielder at White Hart Lane?
Perhaps the move was actually doomed from the start. Mauricio Pochettino teams are acclaimed for certain aspects of their work-rate. The running, passing and movement is constant and unrelenting, and these are all aspects of the game that aren’t often attributed to Sissoko.
Despite his good performances at the Euros, Sissoko isn’t known for his work-rate, and was at times during his spell at Newcastle, branded lazy and uninterested. How did the Tottenham hierarchy expect him to get on with Pochettino’s methods? Or did they perhaps base their opinion on him from just the few games in the summer?
Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko
It’s hard to believe that could be the case, so Spurs must have seen something in Sissoko during his time at Newcastle that granted him the value of £30 million. The Frenchman has been known to have blistering pace at times, as well as a rocket of a shot, and in Tottenham’s formation, a player of this type is always useful.
But is he/has he ever been as good technically or offensively as players like Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Hueng-Min Son or even Erik Lamela? That’s certainly up for debate, and means that the transfer in the first place leaves us scratching our heads.
What the summer holds for Sissoko we do not know, but if the opportunity arises for Spurs to recoup the massive fee they spent on the Frenchman, then perhaps they’d be silly not to take it.
