Last year, Tottenham Hotspur were linked with Mohamed-Ali Cho, a young striker who played for Angers at the time.

Sky Sports reported during the January transfer window that the teenager was offered to Spurs for around £20million.

Tottenham didn’t go for Cho in the end, and the player stayed put until the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Spurs ended up signing Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur on January deadline day.

Obviously that double deal worked out amazingly for Tottenham. Both players have dazzled at N17.

However, Cho has since gone on to make a prestigious list of the world’s best young footballers.

Last summer, the France Under-21 international joined Real Sociedad for a reported €11million fee.

He has made 16 appearances for his new club to date, registering one goal and three assists.

While this tally doesn’t stand out at first, Cho has had to deal with injuries since arriving in Spain.

However, when available, the 19-year-old has played well and looks like a star in the making.

Cho’s efforts have seen him make the Goal.com NXGN 2023 list.

‘Having spent time in both Paris Saint-Germain and Everton’s academies as his family moved between France and England, Cho broke out at Angers in Ligue 1 last season,’ they wrote.

‘His form earned him a call-up to the French U21 squad (having previously represented England) and an €11m move to Real Sociedad over the summer.

‘Capable of playing anywhere across the forward line, the 19-year-old has struggled with injuries since arriving in Spain.

‘Though when he has been available, he has shown why La Real were so keen to bring him to La Liga.’

Missed opportunity but understandable

Although Spurs missed out on a great opportunity with Cho last year, they needed players who could hit the ground running at N17.

Kulusevski has done just that, and he has been an outstanding signing for Tottenham.

The Swede was older and had more top-level experience than Cho, so it made sense for Spurs to sign him.

That said, could Tottenham have potentially gone for both?

Either way, it’s not like Spurs couldn’t try again for Cho in future, maybe once he has developed more at the top level.
