After another stellar performance on Sunday, Victor Wanyama has to be one of the signings of the summer transfer window.

A summer move from Southampton for £11 million, according to BBC Sport, seems to not only be one of the signings of the summer but one of the best bargains as well after another superb performance against Manchester City.

The former Celtic and Southampton midfielder has been a revelation since arriving at the club and has certainly added stiff competition to bolster the Tottenham squad.

The Kenyan has started all seven of Tottenham’s league games this season, scoring one goal, but his sheer power, physique and presence has given Pochettino more options to play with as the season goes on.

Last term, Eric Dier seemed to be the main defensive midfielder and in his absence Tottenham struggled, however Wanyama has added sufficient cover and someone who can more than fill the boots. His performances in a Spurs shirt so far have eclipsed expectations and have given Pochettino another dimension knowing he can play the midfielder without affecting the side too much.

Despite his big frame, the 25 year-old certainly can cover ground to hunt and win the ball back as quickly as possible, something which Pochettino prides himself on.

His combative style has seen him on plenty of occasions break up play and he was at it once more on Sunday afternoon becoming a thorn in City’s side as they tried to play through the thirds with limited joy.

Buying Wanyama may not have been a statement of intent from the club but it has signalled that Tottenham are a club that are looking to have serious competition for places as they hunt to sustain themselves in the top four and potentially as a title challenger to City this season.

Much was asked about whether the team could cope with the demands of the added quality, demand and intensity of Champions League football on top of Premier League football and signings like Wanyama have added the quality to suggest that they could be one of the sides to push favourites City to the wire.
