Tottenham Hotspur are keen on Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher and want him to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Conor Gallagher is wanted at Tottenham Hotspur and could replace Pierre-Emile Højbjerg in Ange Postecoglou’s midfield.

That is according to The Telegraph, who claim that Tottenham are assessing potential midfield additions.

It’s stated that Gallagher is a top contender right now if a deal can be done.

The problem for Tottenham is that Chelsea may not want to sell to bitter rivals Spurs, especially with Mauricio Pochettino on board.

Pochettino is understood to be a keen admirer of Gallagher and may yet want to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

How much would Conor Gallagher cost this summer?

The report states that Chelsea are seeking up to £50million for Gallagher, which is a huge price tag.

The 23-year-old still has two years left on his Chelsea deal and the Blues are not going to sell a homegrown ace on the cheap.

Chelsea are overhauling their midfield this summer with Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek already gone.

Another midfield signing is understandably wanted at Chelsea and that may mean that Gallagher isn’t on the market just yet.

Add in the bad blood between Chelsea and Tottenham and this deal looks difficult to say the very least.

Gallagher can play vital role for Tottenham Hotspur

The aforementioned Hojbjerg just doesn’t seem to fit this new Tottenham side.

Ange Postecoglou will switch from a 3-4-3 under Antonio Conte to a 4-3-3 and that means altering the midfield profiles.

Hojbjerg made sense as a battler alongside Rodrigo Bentancur but his role under Postecoglou is less clear.

Yves Bissouma may be preferred as the deep-lying midfield player whilst James Maddison will operate as a playmaker.

That leaves a role for shuttling midfielder who can get on the ball and operate from box to box as Reo Hatate did for Postecoglou’s Celtic.

Gallagher could be that player for Tottenham, bringing energy and goals to Postecoglou’s midfield.

Hojbjerg is wanted in Spain and Germany but may not bring in big money, meaning Spurs will have to work hard to meet Chelsea’s demands for Gallagher.
