Mauricio Pochettino urges England to be careful with Harry Kane but should the Tottenham striker even be playing at all?

Mauricio Pochettino has urged England to be careful with Harry Kane as the striker is still recovering from a hamstring injury and was substituted in the second half during Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 Premier League victory against Crystal Palace as a result.

Kane will now join up with the national team for friendlies against Germany and Brazil and Pochettino hopes managerial counterpart Gareth Southgate will not take any risks with his star player.

“It’s a difficult situation. For us, we are ­focusing on our problems and our injuries, but I also understand ­completely what the national team wants and needs,” the Argentine was quoted by the Telegraph.

“The most important thing is the national teams understand the needs of our players and help them so they will be fit when they return. The next period of the season is very tough on the players.

“We try to explain the situation and then trust in them that they can help our players. Harry was substituted after 75 minutes to protect him after Real Madrid. It was such an emotional game and it is better to avoid a risk.”

Kane missed the previous league encounter at Manchester United before returning for the crucial Champions League clash with Madrid, which Spurs won 3-1.

When Tottenham return to domestic action following the international break they face Arsenal in the first North London derby of the season on November 18.

Kane will be vital to the side’s chances of leaving the Emirates Stadium with all three points, which begs the question whether the 24-year-old needs to be playing for the Three Lions over the next fortnight?

Southgate obviously wants to win the matches and start to shape his starting XI for the World Cup in Russia next summer, but that will certainly include the forward in any case.

In fact, with Kane already guaranteed to be on the plane, barring any fitness issues, perhaps it could even be an opportunity for the fringe players to impress, while the attacker takes some much needed rest.
