Tony Cascarino has urged Tottenham Hotspur to swoop for Vincent Kompany as they continue to search for a new manager.

Spurs are still on the lookout for a new permanent appointment after parting company with Antonio Conte in March.

Plenty of managers have been linked with the Spurs reins, including Kompany, Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino.

Nagelsmann now looks like the frontrunner for the Tottenham job, while Pochettino seems to be closing in on the Chelsea gig.

However, Spurs have reportedly pursued Kompany too. Fabrizio Romano previously claimed they had spoken to him.

Cascarino, speaking on The Game Football Podcast, believes the Belgian is the right choice for Tottenham.

“I do think I would want (Kompany),” he said.

“I spoke about Vincent Kompany and look I want a guy who can firefight and be a leader.

“He’s been the ultimate leader throughout his career, and he’s now shown he’s got the ability off the field.

“I look at some managers and think ‘why haven’t you been given the chance’.

“Just going after guys who have won things in their career hasn’t worked for them.”

Our view

Kompany would certainly be a good shout for Tottenham. He’s a young, hungry and talented coach.

However, the problem lies in whether Spurs can actually convince him to part company with Burnley this summer.

After all, Kompany has just won the Championship title with them.

It would seem logical for him to at least try to keep them in the Premier League next season.

There would also be a lot of pressure on Kompany at Spurs, particularly in wake of such an underwhelming campaign.

Nagelsmann would probably be a better shout for Tottenham at this moment in time.

He has more experience than Kompany and, crucially, has managed at Bayern Munich, where the pressure is especially high.
