According to The Mirror, Tottenham are looking at a part-exchange deal for Pedro Porro.

The north London club are supposedly willing to offer £27m in cash for the Spanish wing-back as well as a player on loan to Sporting.

Who this player would be remains to be seen, but with Porro potentially arriving as Spurs’ fourth right wing-back, one has to imagine that Emerson Royal, Djed Spence and Matt Doherty are three prime candidates for this switch.

Of those three, it has to be said that Emerson Royal is probably the one who is most likely to make this switch. A move to Lisbon would be a real culture shock for either Doherty or Spence, but as a Brazilian-born player who has played in Spain, moving to Portugal would probably suit Emerson quite nicely.

Whether or not this proposal does actually come off remains to be seen. After all, part-exchange deals don’t happen all that often in top-level football.

However, with that being said, Spurs do have history of pulling off these types of deals in the past.

Indeed, when Tottenham signed Ryan Sessegnon back in 2019, they used this exact method to get him out of Fulham, offering £25m plus Josh Onomah for his services.

These terms are slightly different as Spurs are now offering up a player on loan rather than a permanent transfer, but the Sessegnon deal is an example of how Daniel Levy and use these unorthodox methods to sign players while not burning too many of Spurs’ cash reserves.

This report also, crucially, adds that Tottenham have agreed personal terms with Porro, so if Sporting are willing to accept this part-exchange offer, this transfer could be one that moves rather rapidly.
