Tottenham Hotspur were on the hunt for a new centre-back this summer and they went all around the houses in their pursuit of a new defender.
They looked at the likes of Alessandro Bastoni, Pau Torres and Josko Gvardiol before eventually settling on getting Clement Lenglet in on loan.
Lenglet has been, well, let’s say underwhelming since joining Tottenham in the summer, and Spurs harbour an element of regret around their summer business.
Indeed, according to 90Min, Spurs regret not signing Kim Min-Jae when they had the chance to before Napoli swooped, but luckily, Tottenham could soon have the chance to right that wrong.
Napoli’s Sporting Director, Cristiano Giantuli has confirmed that the defender does indeed have a release clause that comes into effect this summer.
Kim’s release clause
The Napoli chief confirmed that the defender has a release clause that can be triggered in July.
“Yes, there’s a release clause that varies depending on the potential interested club. The clause will only be valid for 15 days in July,” Giuntoli said (as relayed by Fabrizio Romano).
“We’re already thinking of discussing a new deal.”

No matter how high this release clause is, Spurs need to be considering a move here.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that the South Korean has been one of the very best defenders in the world this season.
He’s been very unlucky not to win two Player of the Month awards already, and he’s played a huge part in Napoli’s ascension to the top of Serie A this season.
Simply put, this could be a gamechanger of a defensive signing for Spurs, and if he’s available for a set fee, Spurs should cough up the cash and make up for their summer mistake.
