Tottenham are seemingly set to miss out on AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie, with the midfielder ‘now likely’ to sign a new contract with the club.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Ivory Coast international is yet to receive an offer this January, which has prompted Milan to increase efforts to renew the 25-year-old’s deal in the coming weeks.
Kessie’s departure had, for a while, looked like writing on the wall, with Tottenham the frontrunners for the midfielder’s signature in the January transfer window. However, that no longer looks the case.
As reported by CalcioMercato, Spurs have been chasing Kessie for some time, with the same publication claiming that Antonio Conte has personally asked the club to sign the midfielder this window.
The all-action Ivory Coast star has been key to Milan’s rise up the Serie A table under Stefan Pioli. And now, it appears that Kessie will pen a new contract with the Italian giants after months of speculation.
Indeed, it would be a huge blow for Spurs if they were to lose out on Kessie, especially with Conte eager to sign the former Atalanta star this window as the north London side continue to fight for a top-four spot in the Premier League.
Conte will be fuming if Kessie signs new contract with Milan

The midfielder has long been touted with a move to the Premier League, with Spurs often the side reported as the favourites to land the dynamic Serie A star. However, news that Kessie will sign a new contract with Milan will be shattering for Tottenham, and Conte.
After all, the Italian manager has been demanding the club sign the midfielder for some time. And Kessie penning a new contract with Milan will do nothing to help Conte’s ambition to guide Spurs back to the UEFA Champions League.
