It looks like Antonio Conte is firmly back on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar.

When Jose Mourinho was sacked in April, the then-Inter Milan coach was among the first names to be linked with a move to Spurs as the Portuguese’s replacement.

The trail went cold on it more or less as Tottenham looked at the likes of Brendan Rodgers, Julian Nagelsmann and now, more recently, Mauricio Pochettino.

But Conte is back and The Guardian have reported today that the North Londoners are in talks over hiring him.

The 51-year-old has won four Serie A titles and even a Premier League one following a spell with Chelsea.

And former Tottenham midfielder Michael Brown has told Sky Sports News that Conte’s history with the Blues might not sit well with some Lilywhites fans.

He said: “He [Levy] realises how big it is [Mourinho’s successor] for himself and the football club. He has taken that time. He’s not 100 percent sure. Of all the appointments, this would be the boldest one yet go and hire a former Chelsea managers. Spurs supporters might not like it.”

Brown is wrong

The fact that the Italian has managed Chelsea won’t bother the majority of Tottenham fans.

Why should it?

They accepted Jose Mourinho with open arms because despite managing their Premier League rivals, Mourinho’s trophies speak for themselves and that’s ultimately what they want on the white half of North London, trophies.

Conte doesn’t boast as impressive a record as the new Roma boss, it has to be said, but five league titles in two different countries tells its own story.

This would excite Tottenham fans – and for very good reason.
