Tottenham Hotspur have gone from strength to strength this season.
Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris
Spurs stopper Hugo Lloris spoke to reporters after his side’s impressive 2-0 win at Burnley, and played down talk of a title tilt, claiming that he and his teammates are still looking behind them, rather than at Chelsea at the top the table, as quoted by the Irish Independent.
Tottenham now sit just seven points behind the Blues, after Antonio Conte’s men suffered a shock defeat at home to Crystal Palace at the weekend, and there is genuine belief among the Spurs fanbase that this season could very well be their year.
And with games at home to Manchester City and away at Manchester United to come in Chelsea’s next three outings, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have every chance of closing the gap even further still over the coming weeks.
But the France international goalkeeper played down talk of Tottenham’s title chances, when speaking to the media, claiming that their primary focus remains on qualifying for the Champions League again, as quoted by the Irish Independent:
Hugo Lloris
“Honestly, it doesn’t change my mind or the minds of my team-mates. We’re still focused on ourselves. We need to carry on because it’s very tight in the league behind us. We want to finish as high as possible in this league and be back in the Champions League. We don’t talk about the title because even seven points is a big gap at this stage of the season. I prefer to look backwards and to look at what is happening behind us because this is the final race. It’s a key moment of the season.”
Next up for Spurs is a trip to Wales to take on Swansea City, before back-to-back home games against Watford and Bournemouth respectively, and nine points from those fixtures would surely change Lloris’ view in his side’s title hopes.
